Archbishop Rowan Williams
to visit Mumbles on Saturday 21st June 2003
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Rowan Williams will be visiting Mumbles on Saturday 2lst June. His visit is at the invitation of the Community Council, and will be part of a weekend homecoming to the Swansea area.
On the eve of his visit, he will be attending a special concert given by Cor Meibion Ystradgynlais at the town's Miners' Welfare Hall. Dr. Williams was born in Ystradgynlais and spent the first few years of his life there. The concert will be in aid of the Parish Church, St. Cynog.s [where our Vicar was previously Rector]. Ystrad's Male Voice Choir is one of the premier choirs ofWales and the evening promises to be an excellent one.
On the Saturday, Dr. Williams and his family will have a few hours to spend in and around Mumbles. They will attend a special Service at All Saints ' in the morning - during which a presentation will be made to him by the Community Council. There is likely to be a 'full house. on the day. and we ask our regular worshippers to put their name on the special list [at the back of our two Churches] by Sunday 1st June if they want to be guaranteed a seat. The Archbishop will not preach at the Service - but we will have the great privilege of welcoming him back to All Saints' and of meeting him and his family personally.
After the Service there will be a lunch at Oystermouth Castle for invited guests and this will be followed by a Service at St. Peter's Church, Newton, to mark their 100th Anniversary celebrations.
We are hoping that the day will be an informal and joyful 'welcome home' for Dr. Williams and his family.
The Archbishop
speaks with very great affection about All Saints and the time he
spent here.
It was here that
his Christian faith was nurtured and encouraged during the ministry
of Canon Eddie.
He very readily agreed to be the Patron of our Restoration Appeal and has promised to return when the Church is restored to its former glory for a celebration Festal Eucharist. Please come along in good numbers to make the Archbishop and his family feel welcome and to share in the joy of what will be a wonderful day.
