(Das Franziskanerkloster Kreuzberg liegt in ca. 900 m auf dem Kreuzberg in der bayrischen Rhön /
The Francican Kreuzberg-Monastery is located 900 m above sea level in the in the Bavarian part of the Rhön Mountains). The Irish saint Kilian is said to have erected a cross there in the 7th century dedicating the whole contry of Franconia to Christ. In the 17th century a relic was given to the then founded Franciscan monastery, supposed to be a particle of the cross of Christ. To cater for the physical well-being of the pilgrims the monastery was equipped with a hospice including a brewery, which is still operational and famous for the special beer brewed there. The proceeds from the hospice help to fund the worldwide missionary and social work of the Order of St. Francis.
